A Typical Day at NWHC

A typical day in the life for a North Wellington Health Care family physician starts in the Hospital with inpatient rounds and the occasional procedure or surgical assist. Following inpatient rounds, Physicians travel to their offices located an easy 5 to 20-minute walk or drive from the hospital. Physicians can expect to see a wide variety of patient types during their day.

North Wellington Health Care runs Emergency Departments providing 24/7 coverage at both hospital sites. The Emergency Departments are staffed by the local group of Family Physicians under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Alternate Funding Program.

As well as our Family Practitioners NWHC has consulting staff in General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology, ENT and Pediatrics. Additional services within the Hospital include palliative and supportive care, a diabetes education centre and rehabilitation services, which include physiotherapy.

North Wellington Health Care offers medical education training for students and residents coming from:

  • Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP)
  • McMaster University’s Michael G DeGroote School of Medicine

Testimonials

Dr. John Reaume, Family Physician

“The Medical Staff in Mount Forest were the founders of the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) – an organization born out of the desire to live long and prosper as a Rural Physician. The SRPC’s mission is to provide leadership for rural physicians and to promote sustainable conditions and equitable health care for rural communities. This type of attitude and work ethic was appealing to me because it provides an optimum work-life balance for the physician and their family and ultimately provides the best care for patients. The community of Mount Forest is ideal – it is located in the middle of everywhere.”

"In my pursuit of a career in family medicine, it has always been my desire to have a rural practice in a warm community with appreciative clientele and supportive staff. Minto-Mapleton fulfilled these criteria above my expectations and I am proud to call it home."
